Review: 30266 Sykor's Ice Cruiser Polybag

This was a "free" giveaway at Toys'R'Us in September of 2014.  I just dug it out of storage so let's give it a whirl.

Bag.  I think the price was $3.99 which is a Price per Piece of $0.16.  Even at
$3.00 -- which is the lowest Bricklink price -- it still has a $0.12 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Minifig.

Parts.  Boat Studs, Bar Plates, Clip Plates, Cheese
Graters, and the Trans-Blue pieces are all nice.

Build.  Yeeeeaaaah, not really.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  No.  (-5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  Above.  (-10)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  No.  (-5)
Score: -15 (C).  Not worth it.

Review: 70124 Chima Eagle Legend Beast

Friday funday and the final Chima Legend Beast review.

Box.  MSRP is $9.99 for a $0.10 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Stickers and App card.

Minifig.

Parts 1.  Wings!  Plenty of Exo-Force Robot Arms, Barbs, and Slopes, some Tiles, Plates, Printed Tiles, Wedge Plates, new Headlight Bricks, and Clip Plates, a couple Mixel Joints, one Tooth Plate.

Parts 2.  More Wings!  What really catches my eye is those Inverted Studless Slopes in the middle left of the picture.  Otherwise it's a decent selection of useful parts.

Build.  I'm calling this the Mecha-Owlbear.  I think this may be
one of the coolest looking builds I've managed from a single set.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?
Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  At.  (0)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  Yes.  (+5)
Score: +15 (A).  The only one of the Legend Beast sets to not score the max.

Let's start out the Chima Legend Beast reviews with the Gorilla.

Box.  MSRP is $9.99 for a $0.09 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Stickers and ??? card.

Minifig.

Parts 1.  Some Mixel Joints, my favorite part the 1x2 Mod. Plate w/Vert. Bar, Plates, Exo-Force Robot Arms, Brackets, Slopes, and 1x1 Round Tiles.

Parts 2.  More Mixel Joints, Log Bricks, Slopes, Bionicle Ball Joints, Brackets, Plates, A Clip Plate, and some Bar Plates,

Build 1.  My first attempt at a build from this set.

Build 2.  I also managed two other Frames out of this kit that can't
be made at the same time as Build 1.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?
Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  Below.  (+5)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  Yes.  (+5)
Score: +20 (A+).  A great score, but the somewhat monochromatic nature of the parts colors may limit this set's usefulness.

Review: 30265 Worriz's Fire Bike Polybag

This was available at Target earlier this year and as a Lego "free" giveaway last year.

Bag.  MSRP is $3.99 for a $0.13 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Minifig.  Standard Chima minifig.

Parts.  there's not a lot here.  It's bad when the greatest quantity of parts is the three different varieties of Technic Pins.

Build.  I managed to build a clunky Frame out of the parts available.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?
Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  Above.  (-10) (The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  No.  (-5)
Score: -5 (B-).  Like most Chima sets it falls down on the price.

Review: 70232 Saber-Tooth Tiger Tribe Pack

Part of the last wave of Chima sets, this is an army builder pack.

Box.  MSRP is $9.99 for a Price per Piece of $0.14.  Ouch.

Instructions.

Minifigs.  Enh.

Parts 1.  Cheese Slopes, Clip Plates (vert.), Lightsaber handles, 1x2 Technic Bricks, a Teeth Plate, 1x1 Round Plates, 1x1 and 2x2 Round Tiles, Minifig Claws, and a shooting Minifig Gun are just some of the fun parts here.

Parts 2.  Other people have done some interesting things with the banners from these sets.  The Skis are interesting too.

Build.  Nothing.  Whatever I tried came out looking like a pile of parts.

Yes.  (+5)
Score: -5 (B-).  Yeah, get these on sale or Clearance if you can.
