Station-ary Target

Yes, I know I've used that pun before.  Someone asked about Stations on the Discord last Saturday.  Also a post four years ago on the old Hangar asked about instructions for Stations.  Which is something we don't really have.  So let's fix that.

First of all, Stations are meant to fit on a 4 Stud by 4 Stud Plate.  If you build something larger than that footprint, declare a part of that build that fits in the 4x4 footprint to be the Station.  For the last several years I've been building my stations on a 4x4 Round Plate to help set them apart from general scenery and Terrain.  I've also started color coding them so I know exactly which one has been taken when I'm reading my notes for a Battle Report after a game.

As to what you can build?  Anything.  Here's a look at all of the Stations I've created.  Stations can help convey the back story of the squad you've made.  What are the things your people think are worth fighting over?  Is it something they want, or is it something they need?  In a campaign, it is a representation of a resource you're fighting over?

Landshark Stations

Sometimes I have a clear idea of what I want to build.
  I wanted to evoke
the "levitation effect" from the Landshark Frames in their Stations.

Comm Repeater Stations

cool after I'm done.  I think I succeeded.  These could be good for a Free Colony unit fighting to maintain contact with the rest of the galaxy.

Sometimes each Station is the same.  I had picked up a lot of the
1x1 Brick w/Handle from the PaB Wall at my local Lego store.

Cyclops Stations

are heavily influenced by Jay Biquadrate's work.

Ostrich Stations

Sometimes they are complex.  Something else to keep in mind is that  other people may interpret your builds differently than you.  I saw these as "Methane Monitoring Stations", a friend saw them as "Hi-Tech Fracking Stations".

Daemon Stations

Other times fairly simple.  Another way people may interpret Stations
differently is thinking they're silly when you think they're cool.

While I can't provide instructions, I can provide pictures from multiple angles.

I hope this is helpful for people.

Tiles, Bracket 2x2-1x2 Centered, and Minifig Steering Wheel.

Spotlight: The Mugbearer

It's been three years since I've done a "Spotlight" post and it's high time for a new one.

The Mugbearer has been a member of the Mobile Frame Zero community since 2013, breaking in with the "Vandal" frame design.

Robot Power Loader.  Not specifically built for MFZ but I really like it anyway.

His Majesty's Steam Guard.  Another one not built for MFZ but I think a squad of these would look awesome on a table.

Cerebus Fighter.  This is for the MFZ spinoff Dogfight.

Military Grunt.  This one had a lot of influence on one of my builds.

# 16.  This was for the January 2021 edition of the MMMIG.

(Downloads have been disabled because he makes a living off of these designs.)

He has a Ko-Fi, Gumroad, and a MocsMarketHe also does commissions.  So reach out and send something his way.

Purity: Krazy Bricks 8519-4 Review

Back in September of last year, I made a trip down to NYC for the weekend.  As per my usual I stopped in Chinatown.  While waiting for a restaurant to open, I stumbled across some clone brick sets at Lurei Trading Inc. on Mott Street.  This week I'm reviewing them.

Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts? Yes. (+5)
Score: +20 (A+).  Like the review on Monday this is a good set lacking only in some regular bricks to bulk it out.

Sales Alert

76164 Iron Man Hulkbuster versus A.I.M. Agent is definitely worth it at $0.07 per Piece and plenty of Dark Red and Dark Tan pieces.

71367 Mario's House & Yoshi - Expansion Set isn't great at $0.12 per piece but it does have a varied selection of parts.

41439 Friends Cat Grooming Car is a "4+" set so the Price per piece is even worse than the Mario set but it does have Dark Pink, Dark Purple, and Light Aqua pieces.

Good hunting.

Cool Real World Locations 2

I know it's been a million years since I've done one of these but I recently came across something I thought was worth looking at.  It's an opportunity to talk more about terrain, which is one of my goals this year.   Also, it's a chance to get inspired by the real world and build something cool for our games.

The Coldstones Cut in North Yorkshire, England is a massive art installation that -- to me -- hearkens back to some of the discussions in the MFZ community about having a battlefield composed of underground passages.  Of course this is an aboveground location but it gives you the impression of cramped hallways and tight spaces.  You could also copy it outright.  Make the walls tall enough and it would add Elevation to the mix along with a neat looking visual.  There's a quarry right next to it that would also make for a cool battlefield as well.

Good Sets for Parts 17

So I didn't post one of these for 2020 because the offerings from Lego weren't great for MFZ beyond the Marvel mecha sets and, well, it was 2020.

60304 Road Plates -- The pricing isn't great ($0.18 PpP) but it's a good starter set for terrain or a diorama.

41926 Creative Party Kit -- The Cupcake case could be an interesting terrain piece and it's full of accent pieces.  At $0.04 per Piece this is a great deal.  Brickset review.
41924 Secret Holder -- A handful of SNOT and a ton of accent pieces.  At $0.04 per Piece this is a great deal.

21166 The "Abandoned" Mine -- I know this is from 2020 but, the "spider" could be the start of a Frame, it has an Octagonal Bar Plate and other useful parts, and it's $0.08 per Piece.

41447 Heartlake City Park -- This looks like a nice terrain set with a buch of useful parts added in.
41443 Olivia's Electric Car -- That's a fantastic looking Station right there and it's $0.08 per Piece to boot.
41692 Vet Clinic Rescue Helicopter -- Plenty of Coral pieces along with several useful pieces at $0.08 per Piece make this a really good choice.

43189 Elsa and the Nokk Storybook Adventures -- Okay there's a severe Star Wars Tax on this one ($0.16 PpP) but the Translucent parts are great and the Printed Pentagonal Tile would make a great mean mug for any mecha.

71738 Zane's Titan Mech Battle -- At $60 it's a large set but, it's $0.07 per Piece, has a great selection of useful parts, and has a ton of Sand Blue.

10280 Flower Bouquet -- $0.07 per Piece and a really cool array of colors and useful pieces.
10281 Bonsai Tree -- $0.06 per Piece and another great starter kit for terrain.

75295 Millenium Falcon Microfighter -- Plenty of useful parts at the Golden Ratio.

42116 Skid Steer Loader -- Ah, affordable Technic sets how I love thee.
42117 Racing Plane -- A small Technic sets with interesting colors.

76171 Miles Morales Mech Armor -- Plenty of Clips, Ball Joints, and other useful pieces at a good price.
76145 Eternals' Aerial Assault -- Ditto.
