Scenery

Over on the Hangar, Malcolm started a discussion thread asking about what people would like to see on his blog.  One of the items mentioned was scenery and the best sets for parts for that scenery.  Since I've posted about the best sets for MFZ before and I've also posted about scenery, I figured I could start talking about this topic.

I was originally going to go another direction with this but I've changed my mind.

Let's look at what's available from Lego in terms of "plant matter".  First we have the Bricklink category of Plants.  There are 17 items most of which seem to be generally available.  Combine a few of those items with a few brown pieces like this, or this, or these and you can make things like the plant life in this picture.

Now, I can hear you asking, "How 'bout them houses?"  We'll get to them soon enough.  You'll notice I'm not much interested in the other Bricklink category, Plant, Tree.  This is because most of the trees in that category are single pieces and don't interact so well with the MFZ rules for terrain damage.  The Palm Tree parts are okay though.

Now, the houses.  They're all copied from the base design set down here by Soren.  Those houses along with a small office building, a mosque, and some cars get you a small village as a battleground.

TMOH: The 3T Challenge

Back In June of this year MittenNinja posted a challenge on his blog, Orion 6.  This challenge involves building a mech with no Travis bricks, Taps, or Pneuma-Ts.  While most of my catalog qualifies for this contest, I actually built some new mechs specifically for this.  Here they are.

The Jaeger.

The Ballista.

The Lion-Heart Mk.1

The Lion-Heart. Mk.2

I wasn't happy with the Lion-Heart Mk.1 but I really wanted to use the Lion mask part so I built another frame for it and disassembled -- rare for me -- the Mk.1.  The Lion-Heart Mk.2 is built on a AF frame by Zizy.  The Ballista is a modification of my Uriel frame.  The Jaeger is all new, built using techniques from the Block Chest and SpAAT frames.  I have more pictures over on MOCpages.

Tablescraps II

Here's a couple of wing designs that I came up with a while back.

This is a standard looking design for wings.

This one, not so much.

Purity

There are members of the Lego community who feel that building with another other type of connecting block is heretical.  Lego was the first and we must remain pure.  This includes use of third party creations such as Brickarms.

There have been a few people lately in the MFZ community who are testing that orthodoxy.

The first was the ST-57k Sumu by milt69466.  It's made mostly from Kreo.

Then the A2b Angelus Type 2 by Rasann/Kastor the Chinchilla.

milt69466 strikes again with the ST-61k Yellow Tiger and others.

This modified Chub with MegaBloks parts -- called the ST-28I Paladin -- by LowestFormofWit looks really sharp.

And finally, combining MegaBloks and Kreo, LowestFormOfWit's NR-31 Vassal.

Makes you think, no?

New Squad

After I did a minor modification on the Heavy Walker Tank I realized the the coloring would fit right in with my Death Drones.  Here's a picture of two of them together.

They look pretty good as a team so I'll be putting them together on a table sometime soon.  At the moment I haven't changed the loadout of any of the units as they haven't been playtested as a squad.

Changes at the Hangar

There have been a few changes at the Hangar.  We've added subforums for locating games.  I've also taken to deleting all the spammer accounts I can find.  Please stop by and check it out.
