Review: 30678 Minions' Jetboard Polybag

Found in Target in the Toy Section on a sidekick with other polybags.  This was a "Free with Purchase" item at Lego stores back in July of this year.

Bag.  MSRP is
 $4.99, for a $0.10 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Minifig.

Parts.  Plates, Rounded Plate w/Pinhole, Hinge Plate, Studless Slope, Axle Plates,
Translucent Dish, Wedge Plate w/Cutout, Cone, Rounded Plates, Inkwells, Translucent
Round Tiles, Double Jumpers, Translucent Round Plates, Tires, Rims, Lightning
Bolt, Minifig Wrench, Cylinder Hinge, Axle, Pins, Overwatch Gun, and Bar Tile.

Build.  IO Frigate (2Ras) or (1Y).

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  At.  (0)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  No.  (-5)
Score: +5 (B+).  I think it's worth it just for the Minion Head piece alone.  The Overwatch gun is really useful too.

Purity: Mega Bloks DPG67 Despicable Me Hydrant Crush Review

Since it's Bricktober, let's look at other building systems than Lego.

Box.  MSRP is $6.99 for a $0.18 Price per Piece

Instructions.

Minion-fig.

Parts.  The main reason I bought this set was the three 2x2 Modified Round Plates in the middle of the picture.  I always have a thing for them and everything else is gravy.

Build.  A quick Station.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  At.  (-10)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  No.  (-5)
Score: -5 (B-).  I bought this at 5 Below for $4 which changes it to a B+ score.

Purity: Mega Bloks FFJ33 Despicable Me 3 Wild Waterski Bike

Switching franchises yet again, let's continue with Mega Bloks week.

Box.  MSRP is $14.99 which is a Price per Piece of $0.18.

Instructions.

Minion-figs.

Parts 1.  A little blurry.  The hole in the
center is too loose for a stud to attach.

Parts 2.  The Double Axle Holder in the upper right is really interesting.

Parts 3.  1x3 Double Jumper
Plates and a 2x2 Bar Tile?

Parts 4.  Apollo Studs and
Offset Jumper Plates.

Build.  A little thin, but I think it works.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  Above.  (-10)
(The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  Yes.  (+5)
Score: +5 (B+).  About normal for a licensed set.

Purity: Mega Bloks DYD38 Despicable Booster Set

Now for something a little different after all the Batman content last week.

Box.  MSRP is $14.99 for a $0.10 Price per Piece.  As you can see I got it on Clearance.

Instructions.

Minion fig.

Parts 1.  The Printed Tiles, Truncated Cones, and Round 1x1 Tiles are nice.

Parts 2.  Yup, we've got actual rockets for our Single Shot Rockets.

Parts 3.  I like the "turbofan" 2x2 Round.

Parts 4.  The Gantry Brick is interesting, as are the Piping pieces.

Build.  A chunky Frame and a Station.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  At.  (0)  (The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  Yes.  (+5)
Score: +15 (A).  Very good for a licensed set.

Purity: Mega Bloks DKY82 Despicable Me Copier Chaos Review

I grabbed this recently because it was on Clearance.

Box.  MSRP is $6.99.  Which gives us a $0.21 Price per Piece.  As you can see, I paid $2.90 for it.

Instructions.

Minion-fig.

Parts.  Not a lot here, just a bunch of Plates, Tiles, and Bricks, with some Slopes, a couple Hinge Plates, and a weird Jumper Plate.

Build.  All I managed was a 2 Hit wall.

The Questions:
Can you build something -- a frame, station, or starship -- right away?  No.  (-5)
Is it below, at, or above the golden ratio?  Above.  (-10)  (The Golden Ratio is $0.10 per part.)
If you can't build a frame right away, or choose not to, does it have parts you should be able to put into use right away?  Yes.  (+5)
Does it have more than a handful of immediately useful parts?  No.  (-5)
Score: -15 (C-).  Not a surprising score.  A licensed set and a small amount of pieces isn't going to do well.

Purity: CNC78 Mega Bloks Despicable Me Jelly Lab Review

I'd been eyeing this set ever since it hit the shelf.  I finally got a coupon that lowered the Price per Piece to an acceptable level.  I thought it had some interesting pieces, let's find out.

Box.  MSRP is $9.99,which yields a $0.12 Price per Piece.

Instructions.

Minion.  The arms and legs end in ball joints.

Parts 1.  We have an oddly layered and
angled Plate, two translucent Hoses, a
number of translucent Disks, Round Bricks,
Round Plates, and a Cone, plus a number
of other pieces designed to plug into those
Hoses.  And let's not forget the Antenna.

Parts 2.  A number of translucent Half-Spheres in different sizes, a bunch of Double Female-sided 1x2 Plates, some 1x2 Slope Bricks w/Internal Bar, more translucent Disks and 1x1 Round Bricks, a  translucent Connector of some sort, and a bunch of Bar Connectors.

Build. It's a Station. I didn't use all of
the half-spheres, just the red ones. It may
be a little tall but it doesn't go much outside
the 4 stud x 4 stud limitations.

As long as you get this on sale, it can be a good set for fun, greebly parts.
