Battle Report: DMZ

Most of our gaming group has been vaccinated against Covid-19 and we finally managed to arrange a full size game for the first time in 15 months.  Back in December of last year I posted about a table-setting that I had worked on, it finally saw use.  We decided on a Skirmsh -- as a few people were feeling some ring rust -- and this is what happened.

Marin (4 Frames & 12 Systems) = (6 Points per Asset) * (5 assets) = 30 points.
   Red Static Soldier-- 2Rh/1B/1Y/2W + SSR(x3).
   Blue Medium Tank -- 2Rd+d8/1B/2W.
   Green Medium Artillerist -- 2Ra+d8/1B/2W.
   Purple Light Soldier -- 2Rd/1G/1Y/2W.

Me (4 Frames & 14 Systems) = (5 Points per Asset) * (5 assets) = 25 points. (Hellstrom Squad)

Events of Turn 1 (DDC @ 11):
 Marin captures my Station before the game starts.  My Blue frame hits the silo in front of Marin's Blue frame for 1, then moves past the antenna it was using as cover to escape the smothering closeness of Tom's forces.  PJ Nicht's Blue frame hits the Tower that Marin's Green frame is standing on for 1, destroying it, sending Marin's Green frame crashing down for 2 damage from falling.  Tom's Yellow frame hits the silo in front of Marin's Blue frame for 1 with a SSR, reducing the silo below the height minimum for Cover, then it chases after my Blue frame.  Marin's Red frame hits Tom's Purple frame for 2 with SSRs.  Tom's Purple hits the silo in front of Marin's Red frame for 2, reducing the silo below the height minimum for Cover.  Meara's Blue frame jumps down to a lower platform then hits my Green frame for 2 with a SSR.  PJ Nicht's Purple frame hops over the fence then hits Marin's Purple frame for 2 and the framework it's sheltering behind for 3.  Marin's Purple frame hits PJ Nicht's Blue frame for 2.  PJ Nicht's Yellow frame catches my Red frame out in the open and hits it for 1 with a SSR.  My Yellow frame moves off its position along the fence and captures Tom's Station.  Meara's White frame scuttles out from behind a missile silo and slashes my Green frame for 1.  Tom's Red frame clambers over the fence and hits Marin's Red frame for 1.  Tom's White frame stomps past my Blue frame then saws it for 2.

Marin: 36 points.
Me: 25 points.
Meara: 20 points.
PJ Nicht: 20 points.
Tom: 16 points.






Events of Turn 2 (DDC @ 7):
 Marin's Green frame steps along the framework and captures PJ Nicht's Station.  Marin's Blue frame hits my Yellow frame for 3 then takes two steps to its right.  My Yellow frame in turn hits Marin's Purple frame for 1.  Marin's Purple frame attacks my Yellow frame in retaliation for 3, Station Dance.  My Blue frame moves closer to the framework and hits Marin's Purple frame for 2, destroying it, and hits the framework it was sheltering behind for 3.  My Red frame leaps up to the platform and captures Marin's Station.  Meara's White frame cuts deeply into my Green frame for 3, destroying it.  Meara's Red frame scuttles from one side of the DMZ to the other and hits Tom's Yellow frame for 2 with a SSR.  Tom's Yellow frame uses that momentum to recapture his Station.  PJ Nicht's Pink frame hits Tom's Yellow frame for 3, Station Dance. 
PJ Nicht's Pink frame then moves behind my Blue frame for cover.  Tom's Purple frame moves out of the antenna farm and hits Marin's Blue frame for 1.  Tom's White frame saws my Blue frame for 1 as it moves over to support his Yellow frame.  PJ Nicht's Yellow frame hits Marin's Green frame for 2 at the same time hitting the framework and platform it was standing on -- destroying them -- sending Marin's Green frame crashing down -- again -- for 3 damage from falling, destroying it.  PJ Nicht's Purple frame hits Tom's White frame for 1, Station Dance, PJ Nicht's Purple frame then trots into the framework and recaptures their Station while capturing my Station simultaneously.


PJ Nicht: 24 points.
Me: 20 points.
Meara: 20 points.
Tom: 20 points.
Marin: 12 points.






Events of Turn 3 (DDC @ 5): Tom's White Frame saws PJ Nicht's Pink frame for 1.  PJ Nicht's Yellow frame hits Tom's Yellow frame for 2, destroying it.  Tom's Red frame trundles forward a couple of steps and hits PJ Nicht's Pink frame for 2.  Marin's Red frame sprints across the antenna farm and slashes Tom's White frame for 1.  PJ Nicht's Blue frame hits my Yellow frame for 2, destroying it.


PJ Nicht: 24 points.
Meara: 20 points.
Tom: 16 points.
Me: 15 points.
Marin: 12 points.





Events of Turn 4 (DDC @ 1): Marin's Blue frame moves towards Tom's Station and hits the framework in front of PJ Nicht's Pink frame for 3.  Marin's Red frame steps towards the fence and cuts Meara's Red frame for 2.   Meara's Red frame skuttles into the scrum around Tom's Station and cuts deeply into Tom's White frame for 3.  PJ Nicht's Purple frame leaps up to the platform, captures the Station my Red frame abandoned, and hits Meara's Red frame for 1. The Doomsday Clock is ticked to zero.


PJ Nicht: 28 points.
Meara: 20 points.
Tom: 16 points.
Marin: 12 points.
Me: 10 points.

Thoughts & Observations:
  • This is our first game in fifteen months.
  • This is the first time we used this table-setting.
  • Point Attacker was decided by die roll.
  • This was a Skirmish.
  • I'm still holding to my resolution to use squads that haven't seen prior table time.
  • Three people pulled the "Rook Maneuver" to make the start of the game very interesting.
  • The damage dished out in the first turn goes as follows; five hits on Cover for 8 damage, one Fall for 2 damage, and eight hits for 13 damage.
  • That's a total of 23 points of damage, which I think may be the highest amount in any game without a Frame destroyed in the turn.
  • Then the second turn dished out even more; two hits on Cover for 5 damage, one Fall for 3 damage, and eleven hits for 22 damage.
  • That's a total of 30 points of damage.
  • I made a play to grab another Station on the last turn that totally failed.
